Spiriterra wins 2 Gold medals and Best of Class at the 2015 North Coast Wine Challenge

For the second year in a row we are pleased to announce that our Cabernet Sauvignon has won Gold in the only competition focused exclusively on the finest wines produced and bottled within California’s North Coast AVAs. This year’s medal goes to our 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, earning 93 points for Cabernets priced $40-$75. Judges found the wine ‘elegant, flashy out of the gate’.

Equally exciting, our southern-inspired, sweet 2012 Scuppernong won Gold (93 points) and Best of Class for unusual Dessert Wines. The judges were pleasantly surprised to find this unique, aromatic varietal (native to the southeastern United States) among its North Coast competitors.

The North Coast Wine Challenge competition, now in its second year, is growing in prestige and popularity. 1,054 qualifying entries were blindly judged from a total of 210 wineries in Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake counties, as well as parts of Marin and Solano counties. The North Coast Wine Challenge is only open to wines with at least 75 percent of their grapes sourced from the North Coast. The goal of the competition is to identify the very ‘best of the best’ of the region and recognize only those wines awarded gold medals and 90+ points.

Come taste our and over 100 other gold-medal winning wines this Sunday, May 17 at The Press Democrat North Coast Wine Challenge 2015 Tasting. Wines will be presented by taste profile alongside food from top local chefs at Sebastopol’s The Barlow. Guests will be able to hear from and meet pioneers of the past and today’s innovators to learn what’s new in winemaking in California’s North Coast.
